Video Game Characters Die To Soon: Wrinkly Kong

Wrinkly Kong is Donkey Kong's deceased grandmother, Cranky Kong's former wife. Oh though she is dead she still appears in the Donkey Kong games as a ghost. However, she wasn't always a ghost in the Donkey Kong games, in her first appearance in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest she was still living.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest: In this sequel to Donkey Kong Country, King K. Rool kidnaps Donkey Kong and tells the rest of the Kong family that he'll only let them go if they give him the banana hoard. Since this is very recent after the events of the first Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong knows that Donkey Kong would be furious if they gave away the banana hoard, so him and Dixie Kong set out on a quest to save Donkey Kong. Wrinkly Kong appears in this game, in the place of Candy in the first game, as a way to save your game (you'd pay Wrinkly Kong two banana coins and your game would save). She was found in the Kong Kollege where she taught Kremlings (even King K. Rool). You can also pay her to give you hints and tips.

After her first appearance she returned in Donkey Kong Land 2, a re-telling of the story in Donkey Kong Country 2. Of course, she played the same role (as a way to save your game) and still taught at the Kong Kollege. But, she will no longer give hints. Her next appearance was in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble: In this game Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong go for a short vacation in the Northern Kremisphere. Soon, Dixie Kong becomes worried about the two because the she expects the two to be back sooner. So, she sets out on a quest to find them. She also meets up with Funky Kong who asks her to take her cousin, Kiddy Kong with her. She does and her and Kiddy Kong continue searching for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Wrinkly Kong no longer works in the Kong Kollege, in this game she can be found in a "Save Cave" where, again, you can save your game, this time without paying. She'll be doing different things when you enter a Save Cave, sometimes sleeping, sitting, dancing or playing her Nintendo 64 (which every grandma wants!).

Her last appearance when alive was in Donkey Kong Land III, where she was in her refuge, where she let the player save their games for the last time. Her next appearance was in Donkey Kong 64, as a ghost for the first time.

Donkey Kong 64: King K. Rool returns to Donkey Kong Island in a new Crocodile Isle containing a new weapon called the Blast-O-Matic. However, the incompetence of the Kremlin crew causes them to run into an island and blow up the Blast-O-Matic. In response, King K. Rool  orders the crew to abduct Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong and Chunky Kong and to steal Donkey Kong's Golden Banana Hoard. It's up to Donkey Kong to save them. In this game not only is Wrinkly Kong a ghost, but she plays a bigger role than just a save point. She resides at the location of five different "Wrinkly Doors" all color-coded for their specific Kong. Depending on which door is accessed, Wrinkly Kong gives advice on how to find the Golden Banana pertaining with that Kong. She reveals in this game that she died after the events of Donkey Kong Country 3.

So now we know about Wrinkly Kong's life before her current appearances as a ghost let's talk about exactly why she died to soon. First of all, up to her first appearance as a ghost all she did was allowed you to save your game. They could've made a much more interesting character out of the original idea with her teaching Kremlins! Instead we get the idea that all Wrinkly Kong ever did with her life was take her grandsons money so he could continue fighting! Also, why couldn't she have amounted to something when she was actually living? Of course, there's no explanation as to why she actually became a ghost in the first place. They do, however, tell us when she died. Wait, after Donkey Kong Country 3? Them how did she make an appearance in Donkey Kong Land III alive? This is another reason she died to soon, where she died in the Donkey Kong series doesn't even make any sense! Plus if she can be dead by now what's keeping Cranky Kong alive?

Even if Cranky Kong was younger than Wrinkly Kong or even just lucky enough to live a little longer you'd think at least his appearance would've changed since the first Donkey Kong Country.
So obviously none of the other Donkey Kong characters are aging, so why was Wrinkly Kong able to die? No matter what way you look at it Wrinkly Kongs death was not only pointless, but also didn't make any sense. She died way to soon.
